Jin-Heon Jung

I am a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology. My dissertation title, although not yet fixed, is Post-Division (Christian) Citizenship: The Christian Encounters of North Korean Migrants and the South Korean Protestant Church. In this dissertation, I attempt to investigate how both the migrants and southerners respond and interpret unexpected cultural differences caused by the more-than-a-half-of-century long national division, and further struggle to seek a broader membership through Christian activities. My interests lie in nationalism, Christianity/religions, identity, global capitalism, and public anthropology. Besides, I like watching movie, playing with my son Julian, camping and farming. I plan to finish my degree by spring 2009 and try to move up to a better position in order to both work for world peace and make my wife Sumi and son Doyeon Julian happier. I am very happy that I have Nancy as my advisor and meet with wonderful colleagues through the advisees meeting and the Korean Workshop.
