project 01 - network - statement

After the disillusionment that came from the previous two presidential elections (2000 and 2004), I began to a see a pattern in the candidates: I didn't really like any of them. Picking a candidate was like choosing the lesser of two evils, or worse, convincing myself the person had qualities they actually did not possess. Already nervous about 2008, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a new way of looking at political candidates.

"U pick the Prez," an online quiz, is a critique of American politics, showing the difficulty in selecting a candidate. Can you ever really pick the person you want? The bogus results obtained in the quiz -- objects or characters rather than people -- show the absurdity of our system. It may turn out that these objects have more in common with the qualities we look for in a candidate than an actual candidate him/herself. Who is to say a lawn flamingo would not be more charismatic, a metronome more wishy-washy, and a muppet more patriotic than an actual person? "u pick the Prez" is a humorous look at American Politics inspired by the system it mocks, as well as favorite shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
